  • Bruce Springsteen vs Stevie Nicks – Rhiannon’s On Fire
    Bruce Springsteen vs Stevie Nicks

Something a little different this weekend.
Not chart related. Not a floor filler. Not a party track.
Something for all the fathers out there though. The ones doing their fatherly duties on a daily basis, and the ones looking down on us from heaven.

I don’t think I’ve had tears in my eyes making a mashup as much as this one. Fleetwood Mac and Bruce Springsteen were 2 of my dad’s favourite bands. I had the pleasure of taking him to see Fleetwood Mac on the “Say You Will” tour way back in 2003. It was always a running joke that if we went to a gig together, I’d ask him what he thought of it at the end and he’d always say “Wey it was alreet!” That night when the band had left the stage and the crowd started leaving, I turned to him and asked him. “Very good son, it was very good!” I don’t think any gig got such high praise from him. Genuinely brought tears to the eyes of 20 year old me.

Years later I offered to take him to see Bruce Springsteen. But he was worried that due to his deteriorating health, he wouldn’t enjoy it as much as he should, so we gave it a miss. This all stemmed from taking him to see Carlos Santana. He had waited most of his life to see him, and we were very close to the front. He had insisted he didn’t want disabled seating, he wanted a seat close to the front. After 3 or 4 songs, Santana urged the crowd to stand up and dance. As my dad found it hard to stand for any length of time, he spent the rest of the gig having to either watch the backs of people dancing, or the giant screens which he was annoyed didn’t always show Carlos Santana!

Since losing my father, I’ve passed up on the opportunity to go see Springsteen live a few times. Something I just won’t be able to face.

Anyway, enough rambling from me. But before I shut up, I’d like to say a huge huge thank you to my dad for giving me such an awesome taste in music. Something I’d be lost without, and definitely helps with my choice of being a DJ.

My dad loved videos of Steve Moore (The drummer at the wrong gig. You’ll know when you see the videos!) I threw a version together featuring Dave Grohl on drums, taken from “My Hero” because hey, well, I guess I don’t need to explain that choice, and it may feel like the drummer is at the wrong gig, but the more I listen to it, the more I love it.

Give your dad a hug from me today.

So… A new weekend, and another new entry into the Uk top 40 singles chart.

Will it get that earworm of “Miracle” out my head? Maybe.
Let’s see if this helps get that earworm squashed. Fingers crossed eh?
As usual, you’ll find it on the downloads page.

  • Dua Lipa/George Ezra Mashup
    Dua Lipa/George Ezra Mashup

I got exposed to Dua Lipa’s latest single ridiculously early on Saturday morning. When I say “ridiculously early”, it was shortly after 5am, when most normal people were still fast asleep.
It was probably about the third listening when my ADHD riddled brain started singing “Green Green Grass” over it. Yes, that’s how at least 90% of my mashups are born!
Knowing the earworm would just dig it’s way further and further into my brain, I did what had to be done. Not long after the earworm started digging, the track was born!
